DUSTIN the Turkey has been gobbled up by the competition at the Eurovision Song Contest with the Irish entry failing to make it through to the top ten.
Dustin the Turkey, a puppet from a popular children’s television show, was chosen by the Irish public to be its representative but fell foul of European voters, Ireland Online reported.
Dustin's song, Irelande Douze Pointe, urged Eurovision judges to “Give us another chance, we’re sorry for Riverdance, Sure Flatley he’s a Yank and the Danube flows through France, Block votes! Shock votes! Give us your 12 today, You’re all invited to Dublin, Ireland, And we’ll party the shamrock way .”
But the voting public was not swayed, with top votes going to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Greece, Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Finland, Russia, Israel, Poland and Norway.
The winners' list lends weight to a claim by long-serving Eurovision host Tery Wogan that there was an Iron Curtain being drawn on the competition by eastern European countries to keep out those from the west.
